About

This is a brief concept proposal for a new candidate portal for FullStack Labs (FSL). During this project, the company underwent an internal rebranding of its design systems and internal processes, which needed to be reflected in this design. Additionally, there was an opportunity to expand the platform’s capabilities to include education and job postings without relying on external tools.

Design Discovery & UX Design

During the discovery phase of the primary internal project, Fullstack Labs Admin App (V.1), it became clear that the company needed its own candidate portal to assess and recruit candidates on its platform. This would reduce costs and provide a single, universal source of truth for all its resources, as well as reduce the dependency on external tools.

The ideal user journey was mapped out during this phase, which served as a guide for all UI work that followed. Since this was a short project, the exploration needed to be more visual.

Visual Design

Having in mind the user journey, some initial explorations were done in mid-fidelity prototypes. This was a quick way to convey how the new color palette would work with the new features, as well as find gaps in the experience.

Static Mockups

After deciding the information architecture of each screen and which components were more suitable for the new features, it was time to refine the designs, applying the new concept of the brand and bringing a more modern look and feel to the platform.

Home / Dashboard

The new dashboard concept was designed for candidates to have quick access to all the stages of their job application, see the results of their skills tests, and track progress. It is also a place for them to get familiar with the platform, indicated by the onboarding component on top.

Candidate Profile

The previous discovery showed that having the candidates build their own profile in the platform would solve two pain points for the company:

Assessments Overview

The assessments page is a way for candidates to not only submit their challenges but also to have a clear vision of where they performed better and what points they might need to improve. These assessments are also shown to clients, so they can see how well the candidates performed.

Job Applications

The job application page is a way for the company to rely less on external recruiting tools, as well as have a talent pool dedicated to Fullstack Labs. It also means that a candidate can apply directly to a project or client.

Prototype Walkthrough

In order to present to the client and stakeholders, a prototype was created to introduce the new concept and showcase component animations:

Conclusion

This project was really fun to work on. Despite the short time, having worked on the previous discovery allowed me to have a better understanding of the product and made it easy to design these new features and solutions. Since this was also a totally new concept, I had the freedom to work on more complex visuals and animations, which is not always possible with products that are already alive.
